Four-row tapered roller bearings can accommodate combined low- and medium-speed (radial and axial) loads. They are used almost exclusively in roll applications such as rolling mills.
Depending on their design, four-row tapered roller bearings offer the following main features and advantages:
The four-cup design (four independent outer rings) provides optimal load distribution on all four rows of rollers.
The surface finish of the roller and raceway contact surface is conducive to the formation of hydrodynamic lubricating oil film.
The bearings are made from extremely clean and uniform steel and undergo a unique heat treatment to improve wear resistance.
The optimized seal design ensures excellent protection against external contamination while keeping friction and frictional heat at low levels. The seal design also allows for better lubricant retention, minimizing environmental impact and reducing maintenance costs.
Optimized compact sealing design enables identical internal design.
Bearings with and without spacer rings as well as open and sealed versions are available with the same external dimensions. This allows total bearing interchangeability of current standard design bearings with bearings without spacer rings and/or optimized seal designs.
Optimized design without spacer ring, the roller and cage components and seals can be disassembled and separated. This facilitates installation, removal and maintenance inspection procedures.
The journals can be relatively short, requiring no separate axial bearings, and bearing seats of the same design can be used on both sides of the roll.
The inner ring width tolerance reduction helps with tolerance and dimensioning of surrounding components.
