Inner rings are provided separately for needle roller bearings. In applications where the shaft cannot be hardened and ground, needle roller bearing inner rings are often used in combination with needle roller and cage assemblies or with drawn outer ring needle roller bearings.
Two series of inner rings are available:

When they are wider than standard, allow greater axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing
Provides an excellent mating surface for the lip of the contact seal (Fig. 3)
Should be located on both sides to prevent axial movement (regardless of whether the ring has an interference fit or clearance fit)
One side can be close to the shaft shoulder
The other side can be fixed by a stop ring, spacer or nut
Needle rollers can be used in full complement bearing configurations for low speed or oscillation applications. If the shaft and housing bore serve as raceways, this compact bearing arrangement has a higher load capacity and is more economical than a bearing with a cage (→ Raceways on the shaft and in the housing).
